Do you love your customers enough to send them a Valentine?

Well, no, probably not. In any case it might be misconstrued. But there are subtler and more effective ways of showing them just how much you care about them.

Consider, for example, how and when you communicate. Sure, you respond to their orders. Deal with any questions they might have about what you’re doing or supplying. Send them a polite cover note when you deliver. Then send them the invoice – and, in some cases, chase it. (Though of course if that goes on too long, the politeness may start to fade…)

But do you  talk to them at any other time?

Showing how you love your customers

Do you offer incentives to reorder? Rewards for loyalty? Special deals for valued clients?

Do you offer useful advice on your website – without a hard sell attached? Follow them and converse with them on social media? Support them when they’re launching an offer, a new product, or a social media campaign?

Do you remind them of the things that set you apart from the competition? Tell them  what you’re doing in the community? Explain why and how you do what you do? What your values are? And, importantly, why those things are important to them, as your clients?

All these things are important – because they will help to set you apart from your competitors. To give your business a human face. And to make you memorable – especially if your customers only need to order from you infrequently. And, of course, they can turn a one-off purchase into a regular order. Which, if it happens often enough, will have an immediate impact on your bottom line.

Spreading the love

If all that sounds like a lot of work – well, it doesn’t have to be. One good, long planning session will be enough to get started. And after that, an hour or two a week will be enough to keep it going.
